The Very Large Array
At the time we visited the VLA in April 2010, the antenna were in the "D" configuration (the tightest configuration where each antenna is placed just .4 miles from the center).
There are 27 total antennas, which are placed in a "Y" configuration with 9 antenna on each arm of the "Y". When in the "A" configuration, they spread out over a distance of 22 miles across.
